Crystal River –
Flow: 220 cfs/Redstone, 160 cfs/Carbondale
Conditions: Spring is here and runoff conditions are present, especially below Coal Creek (Redstone). With a below average snowpack this winter, expect the Crystal to shine from mid June-August. Currently the best fishing is taking place above Redstone where the water clarity is more favorable. That is not to say that a cold spell won’t allow the lower river to clear temporarily. Keep in mind, covering water on the Crystal makes more of a difference than fishing the “right” fly. Dry/dropper rigs are great for the abundant pocket water. Nymphing the less frequent deeper pools with attractors like beadheads, worms and eggs trailed by a more exact bwo/caddis imitation is productive right now.
Flies

Streamers: Slump Buster, Buggers, Thin Mints
