Frying Pan River
Flow: 111cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir
Conditions: As is frequently the norm, low and clear water conditions are present. Hatches are consisting of PMDs and BWOs below the dam with sporadic caddis hatches along the lower river. Look for the best dry fly fishing to occur during the afternoon hours of 12-4pm. Light fluorocarbon tippets of 6x and 7x are mandatory to be successful. PMDs have now begun hatching with fish taking notice. Look for this hatch to be the dominate insect in coming weeks as the BWOs dwindle. This in return makes for good rusty spinner falls during most evenings. Another benefit is that the fishing pressure is often at its lowest during that time of day! Streamer fishing has generally been slow with low light periods offering the best bite. Small and dark streamers are favored by most. Mysis Shrimp are still ever popular immediately below the dam though low flows are never conducive to good numbers spilling through. Green drakes will begin hatching in the coming weeks with August-mid September yielding the best hatches.
