Frying Pan River
Flow: 143cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir
Conditions: Clear, cold and recently increased flows have benefitted the hatches, fish and angler. Crowds are heavy on a daily basis. Hatches are consisting of PMDs and BWOs below the dam with sporadic caddis hatches along the lower river. Look for the best dry fly fishing to occur during the afternoon hours of 12-4pm. Light fluorocarbon tippets of 6x and 7x are mandatory to be successful. PMDs are the dominate insect now with lighter hatches of BWOs and Caddis. This in return makes for good rusty spinner falls during most evenings. Another benefit is that the fishing pressure is often at its lowest during that time of day! Streamer fishing has generally been slow with low light periods offering the best bite. Small and dark streamers are favored by most. Mysis Shrimp are still ever popular immediately below the dam though low flows are never conducive to good numbers spilling through. Green drakes have begun hatching in the lower Frying Pan, with the coming weeks in August and mid September yielding the best hatches in the upper stretches of the river.
