Frying Pan River

Flow: Expected to go to 300cfs by the end of Monday 8/16.

Conditions: Higher flows, clear and cold. This is the month for Green Drakes to hatch in abundance along the river! Hatches of PMDs and BWOs are also being seen daily. The infamous Frying Pan serratella also begins its annual appearance this month! Don’t overlook the rusty spinner fall during the evening hours for a little bit more solitude amongst plenty of rising fish. The river is busy on a daily basis but that’s what happens to a world-famous trout stream at the peak time of year – it’s busy for a reason. Light fluorocarbon tippets of 6x are strongly recommended. Downstream drifts aid the dry fly fisher here. The mysis shrimp fishing has picked up with the bump in water flow – especially during early morning hours. Expect the dry fly fishing to remain steady while the nymph fishing should pick-up from these higher flows. These flows often make the wary Frying Pan fish much more cooperative!
