Frying Pan River

Flow: 114cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir

Conditions: Low, clear, cold and reliable. One of the very few rivers in the area that’s unfazed by runoff – and because of that the river is quite busy. As runoff subsides on the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers, fishing pressure should ease a little bit on the Pan. Good hatches of BWOs are being seen daily with PMDs also making an appearance in the past few weeks. Caddis, midges and golden stoneflies round out the list of lesser hatches. Nymph the morning hours with PMD and BWO imitations until hatches begin in the afternoons. Light fluoro tippets of 6X are pretty standard fare on the Pan. It pays to be on the river before 8:30/9am when hordes of guides and their sports show-up and fill the more popular fishing areas. Fishing pressure is also much less along the lower river.
