Crystal River –
Flow: 45cfs/Redstone, 71 cfs/Carbondale
Conditions: Old-man Winter has been around Redstone and Marble for several weeks (and snows) now BUT the river down in Carbondale has been fishing really well. A good “run” of brown trout occurs along the lower river as fish from the Roaring Fork push into the Crystal in efforts to spawn. Some nice whitefish and rainbows will also be found amongst the browns. I’ve still been seeing rising fish here and there – light hatches of BWOs late afternoons and fish up on midges during dusk. Fishing will taper off by mid December and become very weather dependent. Generally speaking better fishing can be had on the Frying Pan and Roaring Fork at this time of year.
