Roaring Fork River

Flow: ice/Aspen, na/Basalt, 405cfs/Glenwood Springs

Conditions: Our heralded Fifth-Season is finally upon us! We arguably see some of the years best fishing right now – with very little fishing pressure to boot. While the entire river has opened up recently, the season really kicks-off along the lower elevation waters between Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. All hatches begin here and gradually work their way up the river in elevation dependent upon water temperature. Midges are the key player throughout the month with BWOs, winter stones, caddis larva and eggs picking up the slack. Look for the overcast and warm days to yield the most ideal conditions. Nymphing is always fairly productive while the best dry fly bite has been midday and again at dusk. The water is still very cold so I wouldn’t count on reliable streamer fishing quite yet. That said, meatheads would be most productive using small and dark patterns crawled and twitched closer to bottom.

The fly shop is loaded to the gills with a ton of new fly tying merch, new rods and reels, new logo apparel and so, so much more. Swing by and help support your local independant fly shop!

Our guides know the Roaring Fork River intimately – let us give you the highlight of your vacation!
