Colorado River –
Flow: 2,060 cfs/Glenwood Springs
Conditions: The river reopened to fishing this morning – here’s what anglers should be thinking. Monsoonal rains have been frequent and the water clarity has been temperamental with about 1-2’feet of visibility currently. Attractor nymph patterns like rubberleg stoneflies, worms, princes etc will all catch some fish. PMDs and psuedocleons (small fall BWOs) and small caddis are hatching. I’d expect the dry fly fishing to pick-up once the clarity improves. That said, this is the time of year for hoppers/chubbys to actually produce some fish instead of just serving as a strike indicator. The streamer bite should be fairly decent as the fish haven’t been pressured for several weeks now coupled with the water cooling and the brown trout getting horny. The reopening of the river should help spread out the float traffic now that the Roaring Fork won’t be taking all of the abuse. Have fun and be safe this fall!
