Flow: 49cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir
Conditions: We’ve seemingly turned the corner lately as warmer and longer days are finally here. That’s not to say that we won’t get another spring snow but the changing of the seasons is certainly here in the fishing world. Midge hatches are now fairly commonplace most days with BWOs in lighter but increasing numbers. Thinking of warmer, overcast days and ‘Fifth-Season’ numbers of rising trout seriously gets our blood pumping after a long, long winter! The upper river is certainly seeing the heaviest hatches though good numbers of bugs are still to be found mid-river from mile markers 4-10. Long and light leaders tapering down to 6x and 7x tippets are mandatory. After primarily nymph fishing for the past few months, why would I want to do anything other than to fish a dry fly to a rising trout? God, does it feel great to have Fifth-Season here again!
