Roaring Fork River

Flow: 503/Aspen (Jaffe Park), 1090cfs/Basalt, 2400cfs/Glenwood Springs

Conditions: It’s runoff time – the trend of cool weather giving us small fishing windows and warm weather giving us muddy conditions will continue for the next several weeks. We’ve got a great snowpack this year and are already looking forward to having a sensational summer season under good water conditions! At this point, realistically the best fishing has been from Basalt to Carbondale – too much mud below the Crystal River and too much volume of water above Basalt where the river is more narrow. Junk-rigs are best for the big, stained or muddy water. Think along the lines of stoneflies, caddis larva, green drake nymphs, worms and eggs fished in shallow/moderate depths in the soft water. If the river is green/clear we tend to be fishing more hatch-matching insects like baetis and caddis. The caddis hatch is here but is sputtering with the overcast and cool temps recently. Feel free to give us a call for daily river conditions at 970.963.5741
